Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Sydney (D)

The first settlement of Australia, positioned on one of the most beautiful harbours in the world, Sydney is the capital of New South Wales. As Australia’s largest city it boasts an incredible mixed culture which only adds to its charm. In addition to the harbour, Sydney is bordered by spectacular beaches to the East and the Blue Mountains to the West and boasts the architectural wonder of the Sydney Opera House.

You will be briefed by a Southworld Tour expert on this extraordinary 10 day Wine and Food Tour Experience at 1pm in the lobby of the Grace Hotel, then your driver/guide will take you for a sightseeing tour of Sydney, including the picturesque Botanical Gardens, the Conservatorium of Music and Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, stopping for spectacular views of the Opera House. Then it’s back to the city’s commercial centre, Darling Harbour and Chinatown before heading for Kings Cross and the exclusive suburbs of Double Bay, Rose Bay and Watson’s Bay for a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean from The Gap before returning to the city.

You will be collected from your hotel and taken to King street Wharf Darling Harbour to board the Sydney 2000 for your ‘Ultra Luxury Food and Wine Experience’.

The gourmet experience on Sydney’s most prestigious cruise ship MV Sydney 2000 includes a welcome reception, a multi-course culinary menu with vintage Australian wines to match, a Captain’s bridge visit and 5 star service.

 

Day 2 Sydney– Hunter Valley (B,L,D )

Enjoy a full breakfast at the Hotel

Meet your driver/guide for your Hunter Valley trip.
Leaving the city behind, we head north towards the Hunter.
We stop at the historic township of Wollombi, famous for its local brew called Dr. Jurd’s Jungle Juice. We stroll through the villages before departing for the Broken Back Range & climb the escarpment to Mt View before descending into the Hunter Valley to begin our wine tasting at a few of the very special boutique wineries in the area. Our first stop is Petersons Champagne House. This is a unique experience in the specialized field of Sparkling Winemaking. The experienced staff will welcome you, offer a tasting at the bar and take you through the selection of premium sparkling wines available that have been made on site by the traditional methode champenoise system.

Peterson House is a beautiful venue built from Gosford Quarry sandstone, with huge timbers originating from an old railway bridge and traditional corrigated iron roof, Peterson House is surrounded by charming vineyards, still ponds, vibrant cottage gardens and rolling hills.

Then visit Wyndham Estate for a unique wine tasting. Wyndham Estate was established in 1828 by George Wyndham. The high humidity, combined with the rich alluvial soils deposited over the years by the Hunter River produces fruit laden with mouth filling flavours. The Wyndham Estate winemaking process aims to optimise these intense fruit flavours at all times. Lunch will be at a local Restaurant.

Next, visit historic Tyrrells winery for a tasting.

You will be dropped off at Hunter Resort where you will be able to check into your rooms and get ready for dinner this evening. (If time permits, you may wish to visit the cellars at Hunter Resort).

Meet your driver this evening and be transferred to Hungerford Hill Terroir Restaurant.
Great wines require not just great winemaking but also great sites with the best possible combination of soil, aspect and climate for the grape varieties being grown. This marriage of the right conditions with the right grape variety is called Terroir.

Chef de Cuisine Darren Ho's menu brings together fresh regional produce complemented by Hungerford Hill's award winning wines, offering a unique culinary experience.


Day 3 Hunter Valley – (BL)

Full breakfast at your hotel this morning.
Continue on our Hunter Valley winery tour.
Visit McWilliams (Mount Pleasant) winery, followed by lunch at the Cellar Restaurant.
This afternoon we travel to Brokenwood winery for a tasting, and then to McGuigans/Hunter Valley Cheese Company for a tutored cheese and wine tasting.

Dinner this evening is at your own leisure.

 

Day 4 Hunter Valley – Sydney - Melbourne (BD)

Full breakfast at your hotel this morning.

Return to Sydney via the scenic freeway to set down at Sydney Airport for your morning flight to Melbourne.

Upon arrival at Melbourne airport you will be met by your coach/driver and commence a sightseeing tour of Melbourne with free time for lunch on your own.

Melbourne is the capital of the state of Victoria and Australia's second largest city. It is the country's fashion and cultural centre and is often referred to as the 'Garden State' due to the magnificent parks and gardens throughout the city. The wonderfully preserved Victorian architecture of Melbourne gives the city a special charm, reminiscent of the great cities of Europe.

Victoria is noted for the city's trams. Tonight, board the Colonial Tramcar for a unique wine and food experience. This beautifully restored 1927 tram, cruises the scenic streets of Melbourne as dinner is served. Enjoy gourmet cuisine and drink premium Australian wines. The atmosphere is cosy, the service friendly and the décor as inviting as the colonial period it reflects.

Day 5 Yarra Valley - (BL)

Full breakfast at your hotel this morning.

Meet your driver/guide for a visit to the Yarra Valley. With a rich history stretching back to the first settlers, the Yarra Valley is not only one of Australia’s oldest wine producing regions, but also one of the most diverse, containing large commercial enterprises and small boutique producers. Just over an hours’ drive east of Melbourne, the Yarra Valley is home to over 90 vineyards and 35 wineries and is best known for its success with pinot noir, fine chardonnays, cabernet sauvignon and shiraz varietals.

 

The Yarra Valley offers a unique food and wine experience, with many wineries specializing in the culinary treasures of the region at the cellar door and adjacent restaurants. Be guided through a cheese and wine tasting at 100-year-old Yarra Valley Dairy and Wine Hub (a cellar door for producers of single vineyard wines), followed by a visit to Yering Station Winery to taste wines in the Old Winery Building and visit the Produce Store, showcasing produce from the region.

 

Visit De Bortoli Winery for a tasting and lunch, followed by a visit to the stunning Green Point Vineyard at Domaine Chandon for sparkling wine tastings and a tour of the winery. Conclude the afternoon with a visit to the cellar door of Coldstream Hills Winery with magnificent views across the Yarra Valley.

Dinner is free tonight to explore the dining "capital" of Australia.


Day 6 Melbourne – Mornington Peninsula – Adelaide (BLD)

Full breakfast at your hotel this morning.

A relatively young region, the Mornington Peninsula is best known for its medium-bodied dry table wines. Its marginal maritime climate means that its most successful wines are the chardonnays and pinot noirs, with Pinot Gris winning acclaim.

Visit Stonier Winery for a tasting, followed by visiting the olive oil orchards and vineyards at the unique and beautiful Montalto winery. Montalto is a spectacular 50-acre natural amphitheatre property incorporating 23 acres of premium vines, 1500 olive trees, extensive wetlands and bird life.

Savour their unique olive oil based products during lunch, matched with unique wines from their vineyards. Travel back to Melbourne airport to connect with your flight to Adelaide. Upon arrival in Adelaide, meet your driver and you will be transferred to your accommodation in Adelaide.

Day 7 McLaren Vale - Barossa Valley (BL)

Today’s visits include Chateau Reynella, Rosemount and D’Arenberg Wineries. For lunch we will visit famous Bridgewater Mill Restaurant where you will be treated to yet another gourmet wine and food experience. Return to Adelaide city this afternoon. Tonight enjoy dinner on your own in Adelaide

DAY 8 Barossa Valley – Sightseeing (BLD)

To visit the Barossa is to taste the good life ... world-famous Barossa Shiraz and Eden Valley Riesling plus other premium wines, regional produce, acclaimed restaurants make this one of Australia's most significant wine regions. No other wine region in Australia has the rich European heritage of the Barossa. Strong links remain to this heritage within the thriving community, combining with down-to-earth Australian spirit to create a richly diverse lifestyle in a relaxed, rural setting.  Historic churches, stone buildings and cottages beckon to be explored. Trails, reserves and forests offer readily accessible nature experiences, and the sweeping valley's feature breathtaking landscapes and scenery.

Today’s visits include Wolf Blass and Torbreck wineries with lunch and wine tasting at Two Hands winery, followed by a visit to Barossa Cheese Company and historic Maggie Beer’s Farmshop.

You will also have time to visit the quaint town of Tanunda today. Originally named Langmeil, Tanunda has grown from it’s German roots and traditions becoming an extremely popular place to experience German Cuisine & Wines.

Return back to your hotel this afternoon.

This evening, transfer to Red Ochre Grill in Adelaide.

DAY 9 Adelaide - McLaren Vale – Adelaide (BL)

The region (today home to such eminent winegrowers as Chester Osborn, Geoff Merrill and Andrew Garrett) has become one of Australia’s premier wine-producing districts, particularly renowned for its full-bodied reds.

The area is dotted by more than 60 cellar doors, most of which are shop fronts for small to medium-size boutique operations but also include such major Australian players as the BRL Hardy group and Rosemount. About 270 independent grape growers can also be found here.

Shiraz is a specialty, as are Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, while Merlot is becoming increasingly popular as a varietal. Chardonnay dominates the white varieties but Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling are also gaining kudos, and experimentation is taking place with Viognier, Marsanne and Sangiovese.

Today’s visit includes Henschke. Explore the immense heritage of over 130 years of grapegrowing & winemaking by his forebears, 5th generation winemaker Stephen Henschke has retained. The highly revered and much sought-after Hill of Grace has captured the red wine world's imagination for decades.

Then we travel on to Yalumba, St Hallet and Jacobs Creek wineries with wine tasting and lunch at Peter Lehman Cellar door in between.

You will also have time to visit the historic town of Angaston today.
A town rich in Aboriginal & Colonial History. This beautiful tree lined town is located in the heart of the Barossa Valley,a must see on any tour of the region.

Then back to your hotel in Adelaide to freshen up for the gala dinner.

A short ten minutes drive from downtown is Penfolds Magill Estate. the home of Australia’s most famous wine – Penfolds Grange. This is the original Penfolds vineyard established by Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold in 1844. Today the area of vines at Magill is a mere 5.2 hectares, however, grape plantings were over 100 hectares for the first half of this century. Join a tour of the historic winery with a wine tasting of Penfolds super premium wines followed by a memorable gourmet experience, savouring the best produce Australia has to offer, paired with truly exceptional Penfold wines.

Upon completion of the dinner, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Adelaide city.
